Where do I enter my license key?

In Goldfinch › Settings › License. Paste the key (it starts with GF-) and click Activate. Your Mac needs to be online once to activate; after that the license works offline.

I lost my license key.

Search your email for “Your Goldfinch license” from hello@usegoldfinch.com. Can't find it? Write to us from the email you bought with and we'll resend it.

I got a new Mac.

A license covers 2 Macs. On the old Mac, choose Deactivate This Mac in Settings › License. If you can't, just activate on the new Mac: Goldfinch shows the Macs using the license and lets you pick one to replace. A license can move 3 times in 30 days; write to us if you need more.

What happens when the trial ends?

The trial isn't timed: your first 20 exported photos are free. After that, exports (JPEG and XMP) are skipped until you enter a license. Your edits are kept.

Using Goldfinch with Claude

Goldfinch includes an MCP server that Claude can use. You need your own Claude account.

Claude Code

Run this once in Terminal:

In Claude's settings, open the developer config and add Goldfinch to mcpServers:

Open a project in Goldfinch, then ask Claude about it: “give these Auto and the Golden look, then show me the darkest three.” Unless you name a folder, Claude works on the project you opened most recently in Goldfinch.

Other AI apps

MCP is an open standard, so other apps that can run local MCP servers can use Goldfinch too: add a server with the command/Applications/Goldfinch.app/Contents/MacOS/goldfinch-mcp. We test with Claude. Goldfinch shows the assistant a preview so it can check its own edits, which only works in apps that can look at images.

Files and formats

  • Goldfinch opens Canon CR3 RAW files, JPEG and PNG, on macOS 12 or later.
  • Previews and exports are made from the JPEG embedded in each RAW file. Full RAW decoding isn't there yet.
  • RAW files are never written. Edits live in Project Files/Goldfinch/ inside the project folder.
